Step into September

Kick off the fall at Fernbank with a lineup of exciting exhibits, events, films, programs and more inside and out! 

LAST CHANCE This month is the last chance to catch the outdoor artistic exhibit, Forest Forms, before it closes Sept. 29. Don’t miss walking among these towering sculptures celebrating plants and animals found in nature. Created by local artist Huelani Mei.   

 

SAY YELLOW Brand new this month is Golden Opportunity: Botanical Illustration, where you can discover the world of yellow plants and pigments through pieces of art and display cases containing dried materials and textiles.  

 

NIGHTS AT THE MUSEUM Looking for after-hours fun? Fernbank has two opportunities for you to choose from! Those 21 and over can attend Fernbank After Dark: Night at the Science Fair on Sept. 13, or those of all ages can stop by Fernbank... but Later: Stellar Science on Sept. 27 

 

GET OUTSIDEOn Sept. 21, celebrate the relationship between humans and nature at Fernbank Forestry Day! Enjoy activities and demonstrations about the world of working forests, as well as an appearance by Smokey Bear.  

 

SEE THE FUTURE Travel through time to discover the newest innovations in engineering and urban planning when you watch Cities of the Future in the Giant Screen Theater! Then, when you need more STEAM (or film) in your life, check out some of these events around Atlanta.  

 

Resilient Earth | 9 miles from Fernbank  

  • Starting Sept. 14 at Science Gallery Atlanta, check out Resilient Earth, a new exhibit that blends science and art to discuss sustainability and how to move toward a more resilient future. Free admission.   

Jurassic Jokes: Science Comedy Night | 50 miles from Fernbank  

  • Tap into your funny bone when you attend this Science Comedy Night on Sept. 13! Join some of Atlanta’s brightest scientists as they dissect their scientific disciplines and bring on the laughs. Ticket prices vary.   

JC100 Film Festival | 2 miles from Fernbank  

  • Looking to watch some more films AND celebrate Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday? Attend the JC100 Film Festival on Sept. 28 and see some of the former president’s favorite films from when he was in the White House. Free admission.
