Know Before You Go

Fernbank is a family-friendly museum. To ensure all guests have a positive visit please refer to the guidelines below: 


Dress Code 

Please dress in appropriate attire. Shirts and shoes are required at all times.
Inappropriate attire includes but is not limited to:  

  • Revealing clothing. 
  • Attire with obscene or offensive graphics or language. 

Code of Conduct 

  • No smoking, cigars, chewable tobacco, e-cigarettes, vaping or illegal substances.  
  • No firearms or weapons of any kind. 
  • No balloons or confetti. 
  • No amplified sound from devices; please wear headphones.  
  • No rude or disrespectful behavior.  
  • No eating or drinking inside of the exhibits. Food is not allowed in WildWoods or Fernbank Forest. 
  • No skateboards, roller skates or use of Heelys® on the museum campus. Bikes are permitted in the parking lot only.  
  • In outdoor areas, stay on the designated paths to protect yourself and sensitive habitats. Do not enter water features, creeks or pond. Do not handle or collect natural items or living things. 

Visitor Information 

  • Experiences inside the museum and within WildWoods are ADA accessible. However, Fernbank Forest includes some areas with steep inclines, rugged features and unpaved trails. Please see our Accessibility Page for more information. 

  • Outdoor areas are open rain or shine but may be closed in the event of dangerous conditions. No refunds will be issued due to weather-related conditions.  

  • Fernbank Forest closes at 4:30 p.m., and the museum and WildWoods close at 5 p.m. For those with timed programs, please be aware that it takes 10-15 minutes to walk from the Fernbank Forest gate to the museum.
